Adaptive Fuzzy Logics for Contextual Hedge Interpretation
نویسنده
چکیده
The setting is that of an agent who needs to find out in which sense a predicate may have been used in a set of sentences received from a source. The agent should take into account both the logical constraints of the set of sentences and relevant semantic information concerning the predicate stored in his semantic memory. I present several adaptive fuzzy hedge logics. Each of these logics checks whether an occurrence of a hedgeable predicate may be interpreted in some specific sense, i.e. as being hedged by technically, strictly speaking, loosely speaking, or simply non-hedged. The basis for the logics is the fuzzy hedge logic Gh. This logic integrates a modified version of George Lakoff’s fuzzy semantics for the hedges technically, strictly speaking, and loosely speaking, cf. Lakoff (1973). The integration involves the introduction of a special set of selection functions. These functions collect the kind of information the agent can retrieve from fuzzy concepts in his semantic memory when interpreting a hedgeable predicate. As the logics are adaptive logics, they have a dynamic proof theory, cf. (Batens 2004; Batens 2007). This enables them to deal with non-monotonic interpretation dynamics. The logics are all sound and complete with respect to the standard [0, 1]-semantics.

Adapting Fuzzy Formal Concept Analysis for Fuzzy Description Logics
Fuzzy Logics have been applied successfully within both Formal Concept Analysis and Description Logics. Especially in the latter field, Fuzzy Logics have been gaining significant momentum during the last two years. Unfortunately, the research on fuzzy logics within the two communities has been conducted independently from each other, leading to different approaches being pursued. We show that i...
متن کاملFuzzy Logic in Narrow Sense with Hedges
Classical logic has a serious limitation in that it cannot cope with the issues of vagueness and uncertainty into which fall most modes of human reasoning. In order to provide a foundation for human knowledge representation and reasoning in the presence of vagueness, imprecision, and uncertainty, fuzzy logic should have the ability to deal with linguistic hedges, which play a very important rol...
متن کاملA logical approach to fuzzy truth hedges
The starting point of this paper are the works of Hájek and Vychodil on the axiomatization of truth-stressing and depressing hedges as expansions of Hájek's BL logic by new unary connectives. They showed that their logics are chain-complete, but standard completeness was only proved for the expansions over Gödel logic. We propose weaker axiomatizations over an arbitrary core fuzzy logic which h...
متن کاملDesign of adaptive fuzzy logic controller based on linguistic-hedge concepts and genetic algorithms
In this paper, we propose a novel fuzzy logic controller, called linguistic hedge fuzzy logic controller, to simplify the membership function constructions and the rule developments. The design methodology of linguistic hedge fuzzy logic controller is a hybrid model based on the concepts of the linguistic hedges and the genetic algorithms. The linguistic hedge operators are used to adjust the s...
